What does “Low Environmental Impact Homes” actually mean?

At the Home of 2030: Design Competition Launch, an event hosted by the IET in collaboration with BRE and Home of 2030, we spoke to Julie Hirigoyen, Chief Executive at UK Green Building Council and Gili Hobbs, Director at BRE, about low environmental impact homes. Homes in the UK make approximately 14-15% of our carbon footprint – showing a real need for low environmental homes that use low-carbon construction materials and have high standards on energy efficiency. Julie and Gili stress the importance of designing net-zero carbon homes that cause minimal or no harm to the environment through their construction and use.
