Hole Keeps Generating Energy When thinking about how to get off of fossil fuels, it’s worth asking why the world isn’t run by geothermal energy instead. We are aware that it is feasible from a technological standpoint and could possibly be considered easy. In fact, the only reason not to do it is that wind and solar power _including accompanying energy storage systems_ maybe even cheaper solutions as we move toward carbon-free energy abundance. Each option — solar PV, wind power, and deep-well geothermal energy — has the technical potential to easily provide 100% of humanity’s energy needs all by itself. When you put them together, they make for quite the feast. But despite all of that, geothermal hasn’t gotten much traction.
