American Company Natron Energy’s New Sodium-Ion Batteries Shocked China’s Battery Manufacturers
Natron Energy is a leading manufacturer of sodium-ion batteries based in Santa Clara, California. The company was founded in 2012 by a team of scientists and engineers from Stanford University who wanted to create a better battery for industrial power and energy markets. They discovered that by using a special material called Prussian blue as the electrode, they could create a battery that has many advantages over conventional lithium-ion batteries. Prussian blue is a common pigment that has been used for centuries in painting and dyeing. It is made from iron and cyanide ions that form a crystal structure with tiny holes that can store sodium ions.
